Schizophrenia in the family, between fear, patience, and love: a literature review

The present research focused on the impact that caregivers have on the adaptation, acceptance, emotional stability, and recovery of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The article highlights caregivers as a vital pillar for the patient; the relationship and quality of life provided by the caregiver are essential for the daily lives of both parties. The article offered several alternatives to foster a more pleasant environment for both caregivers and patients; the recommendations proposed psychoeducation, which aims to inform and instruct caregivers about the true reality of schizophrenia. Through the implementation of this method, better care and coexistence are achieved. On the other hand, the recommendations emphasize that caregivers should receive psychological support. From a methodological approach, a qualitative research study with a cross-sectional documentary design was applied; 30 articles published between 2020 and 2025 related to schizophrenia and the family environment were analyzed. The results showed that 60% of the studies were conducted through semi-structured interviews and dynamic groups, 30% combined questionnaires with direct observation sessions, and 10% were based on quantitative tools such as functioning scales and neuropsychological protocols. Thanks to this, it was possible to detail how families build a support network to confront and manage the crises that arise daily.
